McCarthy Cars supports CCFS

Press Release – 5 January 2015:

Traditionally, the festive season is a time of giving and receiving gifts, however, it is important to remember that not everyone is in this fortunate position.  It is for this reason that throughout November and December, McCarthy Cars are proud to have supported the Croydon Churches Floating Shelter in providing homeless people in the local community with a warm, dry and safe place to sleep over the winter.

The Croydon Churches Floating Shelter works with street homeless in the local area, offering them overnight accommodation at one of the participating churches each night during the coldest months of the year from 1 November to 31 March.  Each evening, the churches provide a hot meal, washing facilities and a bed for the night.  In the morning, a breakfast and packed lunch are provided and help with individuals’ circumstances is provided throughout.  The Croydon Churches Floating Shelter is reliant entirely on donations.

A donation of £25.00 was made for each car sold by McCarthy Cars in November and December and we were supported with kind donations from both our customers and suppliers.  £25.00 is enough to provide shelter, food and warmth for two homeless people for one night at the Croydon Churches Floating Shelter.

We are pleased to announce that our efforts have raised £6,000.00.

James McCarthy, General Manager of McCarthy Cars said:

‘One of my biggest concerns is homelessness.  It concerns me just how quickly life events can take a turn for the worse and through a few events people can see their whole life crumble, leaving them with nothing and on the streets.  It is important to remember that this could happen to anyone.

As a local business it is important for us to contribute directly in supporting our community, and the work of the Croydon Churches Floating Shelter is invaluable to the people they are able to support.  It gives the team at McCarthy Cars great pleasure to know that we have been able to support the dedication, kindness and hard work of all of the volunteers at CCFS.’

Jonathan Baxter, one of the Trustees of the Croydon Churches Floating Shelter said:

‘We at CCFS are staggered by the generosity of James McCarthy and everyone at McCarthy Cars. We are a small charity dependent entirely on donations. We have no paid staff so are reliant on our fantastic volunteers. This wonderful donation will help us to continue to offer safe and secure overnight accommodation during the coldest months of the year to the street homeless of Croydon.’
